Youth & Children’s Ministry

“Come and see!” Jesus said these words to his first disciples, and we encourage our children to come and see what Jesus is up to. At Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, we try to evoke wonder and stir the imagination, encouraging children to follow Jesus and become more like him.
  • We feel that teaching children to worship (not just sit still) is a critical part of a child’s spiritual development, and helps ensure church attendance as young adults. For this reason, it is important that our children get as much out of the Sunday worship service as possible! The children stay in the sanctuary for the Lord’s Prayer, a few hymns, the Old and New Testament readings, the offering, and the Children’s Sermon. Right after the Children’s Sermon the children go downstairs for their own Bible study and coordinating activities in Children’s Church.

Our children participate in a Bible study and a short activity that reinforces the focus of the week’s Bible story. Because children are more likely to learn and live what they’ve discussed in church when their families reinforce it, we distribute take-home pages. These pages encourage families to read the Bible story with their child and includes activities and questions to emphasize real life application.

  • Sunday School 9:30-10:30 a.m.

This is the primary place where kids build a biblical and theological foundation. We have special classes that help our children learn about God from the time they are toddlers. As kids get older they learn more complex stories and concepts. From the time they are toddlers, our children start learning how to pray. Once they are in kindergarten, they are given the opportunity to pray aloud in front of their Sunday School class. Kindergarten is also the time that our children begin to learn how to use their Bibles. Over time these skills are honed so that our kids can enter the youth group with a working knowledge of the fundamentals.

Once in elementary school, children are able to take part during the Sunday service by helping with the offering, contributing writings and drawings for the Order of Worship, praying and reading scripture.

  • As the teenagers of our church grow older, we try to provide a supportive environment to help them mature in their faith.

It is important to us that our youth learn the importance of missions and sharing God’s message with others. The participate in the Sunday worship service, work at our children’s carnivals and events, and serve on committees.

The youth of PHBC participate not only within our church, but act as a presence outside the church as well. They have participated in many missional activities in the community like feeding the hungry through Our House, and raising supplies for the chronically homeless to assist The Van.
